THER INC dba Texas Heavy Equipment Repair
Randy and Judy Smith created Texas Heavy Equipment Repair in April, 1988. Randy was the sole mechanic, and he repaired equipment only in the field. Judy was the sole administrative person, and she officed from the dining room of their home. In the following two years, the business incorporated under the name THER, Inc. The business also acquired a rental yard for shop repairs and hired three mechanics to expand the business services.
In 1992, Randy and Judy Smith bought three acres on Telge Road and constructed a 5000 square foot building for shop repair and offices. The business hired additional mechanics to provide more field service repair for a quicker response time. The ultimate goal was to create a one stop shop, a place for all problems to be solved for pre-owned construction equipment. The goal included quality work and fair and honest treatment of employees and customers.
By 1997, the business personnel had grown to fifteen employees and the three acres next to Texas Heavy Equipment Repair had been purchased. The full six acres allowed a u-turn for haul trucks entering and leaving the premises. The need for enhanced services caused Randy and Judy to start a hydraulics shop. The necessary data was collected, skilled technicians were hired and state of the art equipment and tooling was bought. In the year 2000, Century Hydraulics LLC became a reality and a new building was placed on the three acres newly acquired.
In May of 2000, the Small Business Council of North Harris Montgomery Community College District honored Randy and Judy Smith as finalists for the Small Business of the Year award. However, Randy and Judy were not finished. In 2002, they sensed a need for a track repair shop which would be advantageous to their customers. Quick Trax of Texas Ltd. was born. In 2004, an 8000 square foot building will be built for Quick Trax and its track presses.
Randy, Judy and the employees of Texas Heavy equipment Repair, Century Hydraulics and Quick Trax reached the original goal and surpassed it by developing three successful businesses to create a One Stop Service Center. Management and employees stay true to the goals; they continue to do what they know which is to repair and service construction equipment with quality skills, good diagnostics and fair and honest treatment to one another and customers.
